Highly Effective Therapy for Lasting Recovery

Neurofeedback is a proven and effective brain stimulation technique that facilitates heightened relaxation and focus. It is used mostly to treat patients suffering from a variety of mental disorders, including PTSD, depression, and anxiety. The process works by stimulating the brain to produce desired thought patterns that place patients in positive mental states. The research department at Behavioral Health of the Palm Beaches has extensively researched the methodology and effectiveness of neurofeedback. They collaborate with our clinical professionals in order to create a results-oriented and evidence-based program.

Neurofeedback has been an effective mental health treatment for over forty years, providing the following clinical benefits:

  • Decreased anxiety and depression
  • Improved cognitive function and focus
  • Decreased impulsiveness
  • Improved chances of sustained recovery

Visible, Proven Success

A considerable amount of data illustrates neurofeedback\’s success in helping patients complete treatment programs for drugs and alcohol, including one notable 2005 study from the American Journal of Drug and Alcohol Abuse in which neurofeedback patients were compared to those simply receiving extra therapist time.

The results revealed that neurofeedback patients:

  • Increased their rate of program completion by 41%
  • Improved their ability to sustain attention and restrain impulsive behaviors
  • Decreased their rates of anxiety and depression
  • Increased by 75% their rate of sustained recovery during the 12 months of follow-up (see graph)

The Process of Neurofeedback

This learning process takes place by placing sensors on patients’ scalps. These sensors feed patients’ brainwave patterns into an electroencephalographic (EEG) neurofeedback machine. This machine then detects these patterns to create a live visual representation of patients’ brainwaves, and it can also amplify and record particular brain activity. By viewing these brainwave patterns on a screen and determining the quality of these patterns, clinicians can send signals to your brain to help “teach” it new and more desired brainwave patterns associated with positive physical, emotional and mental states.

Our Neurofeedback Program

Neurofeedback is strongly recommended for clients with a history of relapse after prior attempts at treatment. If you choose this option, you will receive neurofeedback once or twice per day, three to five days per week, during your treatment. Each training session is customized for patients based on the extent of their ability to self-regulate their brainwaves in prior sessions and any current problematic symptoms that they are experiencing. By teaching the brain to work at its fullest capacity, neurofeedback can also increase the effectiveness of other therapies that you receive during your treatment, including EMDR, and other forms of Neurotherapy such as Nexalin Therapy and Light & Sound NeurotherapyIf desired, you can even continue your neurofeedback training at home after discharge, under the guidance and monitoring of Dr. Pigott to ensure that you gain maximum benefit from the therapy.

Neurofeedback might be what you or your loved one needs to help lessen the difficult symptoms that come along with having a mental disorder. Call (888) 432-2467 to learn more about our neurofeedback therapy option.
