Partial Hospitalization Program at BHOPB

A partial hospitalization program (PHP) is an addiction level of care below residential treatment that offers more flexibility for patients who are medically stable and don’t require intensive treatment. It is in this level of addiction treatment that patients begin to re-integrate back into everyday life after rehab, with the opportunity to go off-site for recovery meetings, religious services, and recreational outings. At our Lake Worth drug rehab in Florida, we offer PHP addiction treatment as a seamless step-down for patients who have completed medically assisted detox and residential treatment or as a direct admission for patients who meet medical and clinical criteria.

What Is Partial Hospitalization for Addiction?

A partial hospitalization program is a step-down addiction continuum of care that enables patients to continue receiving full-time therapeutic services while simultaneously developing independent living skills. Patients continue to meet with a psychiatrist/MD on a regular basis for medication evaluation and management, they have individual therapy sessions with their primary clinician weekly, and they attend group therapy daily.

Partial hospitalization rehabs cater to people struggling with addiction who have already undergone medical detox or are deemed medically stable in their initial clinical assessment following admission. Additionally, unlike those in our residential treatment program, patients in our partial hospitalization program receive medical monitoring and counseling during the day but don’t stay overnight at the facility.

For this reason, PHP is sometimes referred to as a day treatment program that offers outpatient addiction services like drug counseling, individual and group therapy, access to medical care, and medication (as needed). Individuals who require immediate medical attention work closely with hospital centers to ensure patients receive the care they need.

In addition to medical care, our partial hospitalization rehab program offers clients the opportunity to begin practicing life skills, such as cooking, cleaning, and doing laundry themselves, preparing them for discharge. Life-skill coaching and vocational services are available to patients to best enable success.

Services in PHP Treatment

Partial hospitalization addiction treatment runs for 3 to 5 days a week for about 4 to 6 hours a day, allowing patients to go home at the end of their sessions. PHP is a more intensive program than other outpatient programs, which may only meet a few times a week.

Individuals entering PHP may be using it as a step down from inpatient care, which is why PHP is best suited for individuals who do not require 24-hour supervision or medical support or who would not have any extra benefits from intensive care. Patients in our partial hospitalization program for addiction work closely with different treatment professionals, including doctors, nurses, social workers, therapists, and psychiatrists, to address various needs.

Typical services offered in our PHP addiction treatment include:

  • Aftercare planning
  • Family therapy
  • Group counseling
  • Holistic treatment
  • Individual counseling
  • Medical services
  • Medication management
  • Psychoeducational groups
  • Relapse prevention planning
  • Team building exercises
  • Vocational workshops
  • & More

During this phase of the addiction treatment process, patients begin to go off-site for activities like 12-step recovery meetings and recreational outings. This aids in the community reintegration process and helps patients realize that having fun in sobriety is possible. We consider this a crucial part of maintaining success post-discharge.

Recreational outings available to patients in our partial hospitalization program include going to:

  • 12 Step Recovery meetings (including AA, NA, GA, CA, SLAA, CODA, and others)
  • Aquariums
  • Go-karting
  • Mini-golfing
  • Museums
  • Religious services
  • The beach
  • The local gym
  • The park
  • The zoo

It is during partial hospitalization treatment that highly trained staff members work with patients to begin discharge planning. Whether patients are returning home, stepping down to our intensive outpatient program, or entering sober living, our dedicated case managers work to find the best placement for each individual. Some patients may require letters of completion for legal, academic, or professional reasons, and our staff will provide the necessary paperwork. We work closely with families and loved ones and have a network of more than 1,000 providers nationwide so that we are able to connect patients with the most appropriate resources upon discharge.
