Individualized Aftercare

One of the addiction care aspects that separates our rehabilitation centers from the others is a commitment to individualized aftercare. Many unfortunately assume that an addict would be completely recovered after just a few months of treatment, while most addicts spent years and even decades abusing drugs and alcohol.

Rehab Is Only the First Step

The initial few months following rehabilitation are the most dangerous for recovering addicts. In fact, over 50 percent of all recoveries end in a relapse within one year. Patients who have a dual diagnosis are at an even higher risk of relapse. This is the first time they have been removed from the protective atmosphere in rehab and will inevitably be faced with cravings, urges and temptations. Following rehab, patients need assistance maintaining the skills they learned and used during residential or intensive outpatient treatment. An effective addiction rehabilitation prepares patients for life after treatment.

The Importance of Aftercare

At Behavioral Health of the Palm Beaches, we begin preparing patients for life outside of our rehab facility and teaching relapse prevention techniques from the very first day of treatment. However, we realize that this alone is not enough. Individuals battling the disease of addiction need continued support from close friends, family and addiction care specialists.

Recovery is about beginning a new life that does not include the use and abuse of drugs and alcohol. A person who is completely changing their life, creating new habits, finding new hangouts and friends is extremely vulnerable to feelings of depression, loneliness, and anger, all of which often precipitate substance abuse. There are several aftercare programs that work to counteract this and make recovering addicts feel inspired during this crucial phase of their journey.

After completing our rehabilitation program, we will make aftercare recommendations to help ensure your continued success.

Individualized Aftercare Services

Referral for Counseling

Depending on the severity of a patient’s addiction, one may need continued group and individual counseling on a regular basis. Often, especially in the case of patients with co-occurring disorders, there are still many challenges to one’s recovery which need to be confronted.

Alcoholics Anonymous

The knowledge that others are fighting the same fight can help cure some of the loneliness felt in recovery. Alcoholics Anonymous creates a judgment-free atmosphere that helps patients cope with everyday stresses and that focuses on spiritual exploration.

Alumni Programs

We remain in continued contact with our rehab graduates and their close friends and family members in order to provide previous patients with a network of people who care about their well-being. Our goal is for long-term success, so we make weekly contact with recovering addicts for up to a year following treatment.

Transitional Living

Even after undergoing intensive addiction treatment, a patient may still not be ready to live independently. Transitional living acts as a bridge between residential rehab and rejoining the regular world.

Trust BHOPB for Long-Lasting Results

The investment of time, money, energy and effort all seem wasted, and both the recovering addict and their close friends and family may begin to feel hopeless.
