Pro Recovery Team Brings Speaking Tour to the King’s Academy

PALM BEACH, FL (February 2016)–The Behavioral Health of the Palm Beaches (BHOPB) Pro Recovery Team participated in an educational speaking engagement with the students and faculty at The King’s Academy in West Palm Beach, Florida. Three members of the Pro Recovery Team, Former MLB pitcher Paul Fletcher, along with Former NFL athletes Randy Grimes and Vance Johnson, discussed their own personal battles with substance abuse, their journey to sobriety and the dangers of addiction.

The main objective was to bring awareness to this devastating disease, and as conveyed by Randy Grimes, “That there is hope and there is help.”

The Pro Recovery Team is comprised of six former professional athletes who have become certified sober coaches and interventionists. Each has experienced the trials and tribulations of fame, the pitfalls of addiction and the hope that comes with recovery. The Pro Recovery Team’s unique platform allows its members to educate the public on the life-threatening temptations of addiction.

The Pro Recovery Team is an asset made available to patients at BHOPB’s Recovery Center for Men. Patients receive support and guidance from the Pro Recovery Team throughout their recovery journey.

The team’s efforts are extremely critical with drug use reaching epidemic proportions. Approximately 40 million Americans meet the clinical criteria for addiction involving alcohol and a variety of other drugs. Each athlete’s unique recovery story, serves as testimony to the miracle that occurs with treatment and sobriety.

The various presentations given by the team discussed that a wide range of factors such as stress, anxiety and depression can be at the epicenter of drug addiction. They also described the importance of identifying the enablers that justify taking a specific substance. Paul Fletcher preached that, “There is no shame in addiction, just shame in not asking for help.”
