Behavioral Health of the Palm Beaches Public Safety Officers Treatment Program was designed specifically for law enforcement, corrections officers, firefighters and EMT workers. The program addresses their unique issues and job pressures with empathy and understanding at every stage of the treatment and recovery process. Our Public Safety Officer's Treatment Program is led by a twenty-five year public safety veteran. Public safety officers respond best to treatment with those who have shared common experiences. Each area has staff who have personal experience in each respective field. For example in our Law Enforcement Program our treatment staff also will include those with backgrounds as police officers in metropolitan police departments in addition to our certified addiction counselors. Our clinical team provides a highly developed recovery program designed to address the unique requirements of public safety officers.

The Public Safety Officers Treatment Program offers all the services of an inpatient detox and rehab program as well as individualized programs for law enforcement, corrections officers, firefighters and EMT workers. Treatment methods include PTSD therapy, guilt and shame resolution, anger management and workshops that deal with coping with violence. Participants meet in separate peer groups and have individual sessions with personal therapists.

Each public safety officer is evaluated to determine the severity of the substance abuse problem and the underlying issues associated with the addiction. The public safety officer is then scheduled into specialty groups, as indicated, including critical incident and trauma counseling as part of their specialized treatment program.

Law enforcement, corrections officers, firefighters and EMT workers have always been in some of the most demanding and stressful professions in the world. In the last few years as it has become more and more complicated, the stresses of the job have increased to the point where law enforcement officers have some of the highest rates of substance abuse, divorce, family dysfunction, depression, and suicide in the country.

All of our services are confidential and our counselors are well versed in job jeopardy and job protection. Our medical staff and certified counselors will not only offer appropriate treatment but will also offer documentation and support throughout the job protection phases. If officers need help with disciplinary action, job termination, or even criminal charges, our staff will work with their union to provide all documentation and testimony at any and all hearings up to and including criminal hearings.
