Healthcare Professionals Alcohol and Drug Treatment

Many healthcare professionals end up needing drug or alcohol rehabilitation as the stressful environment and tremendous amount of dedication and commitment this field requires takes its toll on them personally. Many of these individuals also have easy access to controlled substance medications, which they may begin taking for self-medication, stress relief, or to improve work performance. Of course, once addiction sets in, work performance often suffers, risking the health and even the lives of the individuals. That is when healthcare professionals treatment becomes a matter of life and death, not just for the individual with the substance problem, but for their patients as well.iStock_000005794295XSmall.jpg

Healthcare professionals suffering from dependency issues and behavioral disorders require very specialized treatment. Behavioral Health of the Palm Beaches has earned a reputation for helping doctors, nurses and other healthcare providers overcome their alcohol or drug abuse issues through a specialized approach specifically designed for healthcare professionals' treatment. We understand the unique challenges facing healthcare professionals and have devised a program to meet their special requirements.

Directed by a licensed professional in addiction medicine, the first step of our healthcare professionals' treatment program is a comprehensive assessment and evaluation. Based on the results, an individualized treatment plan is formulated. Licensing concerns and state board requirements are also administered in detail, and confidentiality is absolute. Participants in our program can expect to return to practice with complete confidence and in recovery.

Upon completion of the prescribed treatment plan, the recovering healthcare professional is discharged into an aftercare program designed to continue therapy in the outpatient setting. The recovering provider will be directed to continue to receive therapy for issues that were identified in the primary assessment period or during the primary healthcare professionals' treatment.

When at all possible, the recovering healthcare provider will be referred to a State “Professional Assistance Program” to monitor the recovery of the provider and to provide the necessary advocacy work on behalf of the recovering healthcare provider. The healthcare provider, upon admission to BHOPB will be educated about the professional assistance program in their state and will be encouraged to enroll. This is an important step in healthcare professionals' treatment that ensures continuing support for the individual in recovery.
