How did you know it was 27?
Well here it goes.
27 and counting: Still thinking like an addict. Well I had my 27th sobriety anniversary on March 6th so maybe now my addictive thinking will go away. Perhaps this year I'll even stop smoking. I've made several attempts in the past, once made it 15 months, then a hurricane struck Florida. Figured I might as well smoke. It's been three years since the hurricane and I'm still at it. The nicotine gum worked for a while. In fact it worked great. That stuff is like speed that you chew. I got all my work done for the week in three days. Problem was that it was far more expensive than smoking. Then I tried the lozenges for a while. I kind of liked those and they worked fairly well. I knew I was in trouble when I thought about chopping them up and snorting them. my sponsor didn't think that was a good idea. The problem with being in recovery is that you naturally share your insanity with other addicts and up until now its saved my ass many times. I laugh (and exagerate) when I write this stuff but I know my recovering friends can relate. We all know that there's only one way to deal with an addiction and that's abstaining one day at a time while sharing with each other. So I'll let you know how it goes.
