Aviation Alcohol and Drug Treatment Program
Alcohol or drug addiction can be hard to talk about or even to recognize in many occupations but one of the most sensitive occupations for admitting to having an alcohol or substance abuse problem is the aviation industry. This is because airline pilots and support staff are directly responsible for the lives of more people at one time than any other form of public transportation. A single airline accident can kill 500 or more people at one time. When there are so many human lives at stake it is understandable why there is high level of denial about having a problem with alcohol or drugs. As a result, the FAA and the various airlines themselves have implemented very strict policies about the consumption of alcohol and a mandatory DOT drug testing program.

Fortunately, today many airlines provide treatment through their own EAP (Employee Assistance Programs) and while there is still an understandable reluctance and denial to admit to having an alcohol or drug problem especially for pilots, air traffic controllers, or airline attendants, it is very much improved from the way it was 30 or more years ago.
While these treatment programs within the aviation industry do a good job for most of their employees, there are still some who tried the program only to relapse and find that they still have a problem with alcohol or drugs even after completing the program. Behavioral Health of the Palm Beaches recognizes this problem and realizes there is a need for another treatment option specifically for those whose alcohol or drug problem return after they try their company treatment programs. The Aviation Treatment Program at Behavioral Health of the Palm Beaches was created specifically to help these aviation individuals who have a relapse or reoccurring alcohol or drug problems. This specialized program has an increased chance for success by using smaller more concentrated treatment strategies that target specific problem areas in a more personal setting than the larger, less individualized, aviation sponsored employee treatment programs.
The Aviation Treatment Program at Behavioral Health of the Palm Beaches provides medically supervised and monitored detoxification, rehabilitation and extended care services all under the supervision of licensed medical doctors, psychiatrists and board certified addictionologists.
